Atheist, Agnostic, Secular etc.. - 1.1 Billion Believers - Non – Religious
200,000 BC – originated before organized religions formed and has continued to grow. Plato, Aristotle, Einstein, Da Vinci along with many other great minds throughout time have embraced this world view as a way of continuing the expansion of consciousness and world thought.
Belief -Atheists are people who do not believe in a god, while Agnostics are people who think that we cannot know whether a god exists.
Atheism – originated from the Greek (atheos), meaning “without gods”, which was applied with a negative connotation to those thought to reject the gods worshipped by the larger society. The first individuals to identify themselves as “atheist” appeared in the 18th century. Atheism relates to a belief in the existence or non-existence of a deity, or whether the person associates any meaning to the terms “God” or “deity.” Atheism can involve the positive assertion that there is no deity; this is sometimes referred to as “strong Atheism.”Atheists often promote the belief that all Gods and Goddesses, as well as angels, demons, ghosts, etc., are nonexistent entities created by human minds.
Agnostic – (Greek: ἀ- a-, without gnōsis, knowledge) was used by Thomas Henry Huxley, an English biologist, in a speech at a meeting of the Metaphysical Society in 1876 to describe his philosophy which rejects all claims of spiritual or mystical knowledge. Early Christian church leaders used the Greek word Gnosis (knowledge) to describe “spiritual knowledge.” Agnosticism is not to be confused with religious views opposing the ancient religious movement of Gnosticism particular; Huxley identified agnosticism not as a creed but rather as a method of skeptical, evidence-based inquiry. In recent years, scientific literature dealing with neuroscience and psychology has used the word to mean “not knowable”.
Positive Atheists – people who self-identify as atheists are often assumed to be without faith, however, the New/Old Age movement of enlightenment and seeing yourself as divine and interconnected to all that is around you is an example of positive atheism. Buddha is an example of a positive atheist.
